This year our school has a new Behaviour Expectation Policy. This policy outlines the school wide behaviour expectations (based on the 7 Habits), as well as the specific responsibilities for students, teachers, administration, and parents.
Our classroom uses ‘The Leader in Me’ by Stephen Covey to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students. Each student will learn about ‘The 7 Habits’ while learning about themselves as a leader, how to work with others, and ultimately put all the skills together to be balanced. It is expected that each student will be a positive leader in the classroom to ensure we have the best year yet!
Habit 1: Be Proactive- Students will seek solutions, not roadblocks. Students will are responsible for their choices and positively impact the classroom.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind- Students plan ahead and set high goals for themselves. The work they engage in is meaningful, and each student is an essential part of the class.
Habit 3: Put First Things First- Students will decide what is important and learn how to set priorities. Students will set goals and be organized.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win– Life is not a competition, and positive leaders seek to find a fair solution. The students are not selfish and have respect for everybody’s views.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood- Students will actively listen to other people’s ideas and feelings, show empathy for what the other person may have experienced, listen attentively when the other person is speaking without interruption, and be present in the conversation while focusing on what the other person is saying rather than what they want to say.
Habit 6: Synergize- We are better together! Students value other people’s perspectives, seek out other views, will cooperate with others during group tasks and are an overall good team player.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw- Students will seek balance in their life through ways of exercising, eating well, maintaining a growth mindset, developing a positive support network around them, and spend time with friends and family.
